The Fighting Irish baseball team earned a hard-fought extra-inning victory over Massillon High School on Monday, May 4th, edging out a 3-2 win in the 9th inning. With the victory, the Irish improved to 13-5 on the season.
On the mound, Will Tober and Aidan Reynolds combined for a strong outing. Tober worked the first three innings, while Reynolds closed out the final six. Together, they recorded 10 strikeouts while holding Massillon to a .176 opponent batting average and posting an impressive 0.79 ERA.
Offensively, the Irish battled throughout the game, finishing with a .214 team batting average. Rylan Hurley accounted for one run, while Alex Slone drove in two to lead the scoring effort. Full game stats can be found here.
The Irish now turn their attention to a busy stretch to close out the regular season, with four games scheduled in the coming days and seven remaining overall. They will travel to Canton Central Catholic on Wednesday, May 6th for a 5:00 PM first pitch. The team returns home on Thursday, May 7th for Senior Night at Skeeles Field against Lutheran West at 6:00 PM. On Friday, May 8th, the Irish will take on rival Hoban at 7 17 Credit Union Park at 6:30 PM. The week concludes with a Saturday doubleheader at Skeeles Field, beginning with Medina at 11:00 AM, followed by Manchester at 2:00 PM.
