Irish Wrestling Dominates Doug Dix Tournament at Cuyahoga Falls

The Fighting Irish wrestling team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, February 14 at the Doug Dix Wrestling Tournament in Cuyahoga Falls, capturing the team title with an impressive 5-0 record against strong competition from across Ohio.

Despite surrendering three forfeits in separate weight classes throughout the day, the Irish controlled the tournament from start to finish. They opened with a 48-27 victory over Black River, advanced with a bye in the second round, and then defeated host Cuyahoga Falls in commanding fashion, 51-16.

The momentum continued with a 48-30 win over Richmond Edison, earning a semifinal matchup against Norton High School. The Irish once again prevailed by a 48-30 margin to secure a spot in the championship round. In the final, they defeated Barberton to claim the tournament championship and cap off a remarkable day on the mat.

Several individual performances stood out. Freshman Cole Palma earned Tournament MVP honors with a perfect 5-0 record. Fellow freshman Nolan DeShon also went 5-0, highlighted by a victory over the No. 6-ranked wrestler in the state in his weight class.

The Irish now turn their focus to postseason competition, which begins February 28 at Sectionals. The sectional tournament will be held at LeBron James Arena, with wrestling set to begin at 9:30 AM.
