The Fighting Irish Boys Track & Field team delivered an outstanding performance at the OHSAA Division II Regional Championships on Friday, May 29, at Austintown Fitch High School, earning four state qualifiers and continuing an impressive postseason run.
The Irish will be represented at the OHSAA State Championships by two individual qualifiers and a 4×100-meter relay team after a dominant showing against some of the top competition in the region.
Ali Hann got the day started in impressive fashion, finishing as the regional runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49 seconds. His second-place finish secured an automatic berth to the state meet.
DeCarlo Prince also punched his ticket to Columbus with a strong performance in the 100-meter dash. Prince crossed the finish line in 10.89 seconds, placing fifth overall and earning a state qualification.
The Irish continued their success in the 4×100-meter relay as Semaj Haley, Ali Hann, Elijah Chapman, and DeCarlo Prince teamed up to run a season-best time of 42.30 seconds. The quartet finished third overall behind only Massillon and Walsh Jesuit, earning an automatic qualification to the state championships.
The state qualifiers will now travel to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus to compete at the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships. Preliminary races will take place on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 2:30 PM, with championship finals scheduled for Sunday, June 7, beginning at 1:00 PM. A full timeline can be found here.
