After a commanding District Semifinal victory over Buckeye High School, the celebration inside LeBron James Arena carried even greater significance for Dru Joyce. With the win, the longtime leader of St. Vincent–St. Mary High School Boys Basketball secured his 500th career coaching victory, a milestone that reflects not just longevity, but sustained excellence.
At the helm of the Irish, Coach Joyce has built one of Ohio’s premier high school basketball programs. His tenure has been defined by multiple state championships, deep postseason runs, and a standard of consistency that has become synonymous with St. Vincent–St. Mary basketball. Year after year, his teams have competed at the highest level, representing the school and community with pride.
While 500 wins is a remarkable achievement, many know the number only tells part of the story. Coach Dru’s true impact is measured in the generations of young men he has mentored, athletes who have grown not only in skill, but in character, discipline, and leadership. His commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court has shaped a legacy that extends far beyond the hardwood.
Reaching this milestone during another postseason run is fitting for a coach whose career has been defined by meaningful March moments. As the Irish continue their tournament journey, the program does so under the guidance of a coach whose influence has left a permanent mark on St. Vincent–St. Mary athletics.
Congratulations to Coach Dru Joyce on 500 career victories, and thank you for decades of leadership, excellence, and unwavering dedication to the Irish tradition. Go Irish!
