On a cold Friday night at James A. Rhodes Arena, the St. Vincent–St. Mary Fighting Irish squared off against the Archbishop Hoban Knights in front of an energetic crowd. The contest was tightly contested from the opening tip, with both teams trading baskets and finishing the first quarter deadlocked.
The Irish gained momentum in the second quarter and carried a 30–24 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, Archbishop Hoban edged the Irish by one point in the third quarter, taking a narrow 44–43 advantage during the fourth quarter.
St. Vincent–St. Mary responded with a strong fourth-quarter run to reclaim the lead and secure the victory. The Irish were led by a strong performance from their senior trio of DeCarlo Prince, Caleb Hill, and Leigh Cotton. Prince finished with 16 points, surpassing the 1,000-career-point milestone midway through the game—an outstanding achievement for the senior. Cotton also contributed 16 points, while Hill added 11. Junior Justin Robinson sealed the win with a late and-one basket that put the game out of reach.
The Irish will look to carry the momentum into their next matchup on Tuesday, January 27, against Ursuline High School. The games will be played at Ursuline, with freshman tipping off at 4:15 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m., and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
