Irish Girls Basketball Advances to Regional Final

The Fighting Irish Girls Basketball Team traveled to Elida, Ohio on Wednesday, March 4 to take on the Medina Highland Hornets in the Regional Semifinal. The game remained tightly contested through the first three quarters, with both teams battling on both ends of the floor.

In the fourth quarter, the Irish delivered a decisive surge to take control of the game. Strong defensive play and timely scoring allowed the Irish to pull ahead and maintain the lead until the final buzzer.

Leading the way for the Irish were sophomore Sydney Ferguson, who delivered an outstanding performance with 22 points, and junior Melania Cornute, who added 18 points in the victory.

With the 47-39 win, the Irish advance to the Regional Final, placing them among the final eight teams remaining in Division III in the state.

St. Vincent-St. Mary will face Notre Dame Academy, which is coming off a 35-30 win over Norwalk in its Regional Semifinal. The Eagles enter the game with a 15-10 overall record and have defeated Springfield, Bowsher, and Celina during their postseason run.

The Regional Final will be played on Saturday, March 7 at the Elida Fieldhouse, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
