Softball Beats Hawken in Five Innings

The Fighting Irish Softball team delivered a dominant performance against Hawken in the opening round of postseason play, earning a commanding 24-0 victory. The Irish wasted no time taking control, scoring 12 runs in the first inning and continuing their offensive surge with three runs in the second, five in the third, and four more in the fourth inning.

St. Vincent–St. Mary utilized five pitchers throughout the game, as Rhyan Johnson, Cameron Eckroad, Kate Krabill, Ali Zajac, and Zoey Smith each made an appearance in the circle. The pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts while allowing no hits and no runs, holding Hawken to a .000 opponent batting average.

At the plate, the Irish offense was equally impressive, finishing with a .647 team batting average. Senior Ella Kim and freshman Rhyan Johnson led the scoring attack with five runs each. Full game statistics can be found here.

With the win, the Irish advance to the District Semifinal, where they will host Louisville on Tuesday, May 19th at Firestone Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Louisville enters the matchup following an 11-3 victory over No. 8 seed Youngstown Ursuline and holds a 12-13 overall record this season.
