The Fighting Irish wrestling team faced elite competition from across the country at the Johnny Drennan Memorial Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, competing over two days on Friday, January 9, and Saturday, January 10.
Several Irish wrestlers delivered strong performances throughout the tournament. Sophomore Cayden Dahs (120), junior Will Perez (150), senior Duke Clayton (157), junior Caden Wilson (175), and sophomore Andrew Lowther (190) all advanced through day one and earned spots in the consolation finals on day two.
A strong showing continued on Saturday, as freshman Cole Palma (106), freshman Nolan DeShon (113), freshman Quinn Hurley (126), junior Taggart Wade (144), and senior Rylan Hurley (165) qualified for the semifinals.
Individually, the Irish saw multiple podium finishes. Freshman Cole Palma placed third at 106, while Quinn Hurley earned third at 126 and Nolan DeShon followed with a third-place finish at 113. Senior Rylan Hurley also finished third at 165. Junior Taggart Wade led the team with a second-place finish at 144, and sophomore Andrew Lowther placed fifth at 190. Senior Duke Clayton rounded out the placers with a seventh-place finish at 157.
The Irish return to action this Saturday and Sunday at the Catholic Invitational Tournament, hosted by St. Charles High School. Competition begins at 9:00 AM.
